Chain-ons to delay nuclear waste trucks

Diet Simon, adapting activist sources 13.11.2006 01:38 Themen: Atom Weltweit Ökologie
The blockades are in the nearby villages of Pudripp, Klein Gusborn, one in Langendorf and one before the reloading crane at Dannenberg railway station.
Five activists were chained to each concrete pyramid. A one minute 40 second video in Real Media format, just under 3MB, is available at  http://de.indymedia.org/2006/11/161848.shtml, showing the first chain-on at 9.30 pm. At the time of posting police were trying to remove the blockade.

At a chain-on by farmers in Langendorf just after midnight two lawyers acting on their behalf were detained by police and prevented from doing their job after they refused to move away from their chained-on clients.

Cold midnight staying power

Jutta/Diet 13.11.2006 - 01:54

Jutta wrote at 1:28 Monday 13 November:

The calm before the storm – road blocking demands staying power. It’s cold on the road in front of the reloading crane (at the Dannenberg railway station) between Sunday and Monday. Four hundred male and female demonstrators sit and lie east of the road junction on the possible “northern route” of the Castor truck convoy. The same number of people are holding the southern road, the first few metres of the so-called south route, occupied.

For hours the demonstrators have taken the brunt of the wind, Blankets, plastic sheeting and straw-filled bags are only a poor protection against the cold, but despite that many are dozing on the road. Those who’re awake are relaxed and sure to be at the right place.

Just before midnight the police exchanges its squads. It’s now the turn of the Lower Saxony police (Gorleben lies in that state). For some time now a water cannon has stood at the edge of the southern blockade, but only shines into the night. At 0;40 the last of the 12 Castor caskets was heaved off the train onto an 11-axle low-loader truck (for the last 20 km run to the dump).

More on the concrete pyramids

Farmers’ Emergency Group Lüchow-Dannenberg 13.11.2006 - 10:23
This year the blockaders did not use the method successful in past years, which was to chain themselves to a tractor locked into concrete. To enable faster success of the action and to trick the police, a mobile concrete pyramid was developed. Four people chained themselves to each of the four pyramids in several villages. The Wendland pyramids were marked with the trademarks of the four power companies EON, Vattenfall, RWE and EnBW to focus attention on those responsible for the lethal atomic technology. For the blockaders the pyramids of Gizeh symbolise the perishability of all human works, already crumbling after only 4,000 years. But electricity companies and politicians arrogate unto themselves the guarantee that atomic waste will be safe for 100,000 years. After the near-meltdown in Forsmark/Sweden, the planned extension of the running times of German nuclear power stations and the lifting of the moratorium on exploring the Gorleben salt deposit as a final dump, the activist farmers see even more justification for their self-defence in crisis. They demand an end to the disposal lie and the production of more nuclear waste.

With their spectacular protest actions the Gorleben nuclear opponents want to inspire courage in people and motivate them to take part in demonstrations. For almost 30 years they have taken part in the protest against the nuclear installations in Gorleben. It is already the third generation of farmers in actions against the Castor transports. The resistance in the Wendland has no problems attracting young blood, and that boosts our spirits for coming transports….
